Ensembles Offered MTSU Percussion Ensembles
Standard percussion ensembles for all MTSU percussion students.  There are two ensembles, both meet during the day.  A wide and varying selection of music is played in these ensembles, and there is at least one performance each semester, in addition to occassional off-campus performances.

Steel Bands
There are two steel drum bands that meet regularly on Wednesday nights, one from 5:00-7:00 and one from 7:00-9:00.  The MTSU Steel Drum band consists of: lead pan, double seconds, double tenors, cellos, tenor basses, drumset and percussion.  This ensemble performs a variety of compositions written and or arranged for this medium. Students not only perform this type of literature but also have an opportunity to arrange for this group.  There is at least one performance each semester, as well as possible off-campus performances.

Salsa Band
The MTSU Salsa Band is an ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of Afro-Cuban Salsa music. The group usually meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:00-6:50, and includes a horn section, percussion section, a bass, and a piano. The percussion section generally includes congas, timbales, bongos, and a drum set while the horn section includes trumpets, saxophones, and a trombone. The group is open to students through audition. The members of the group study the style, form, and history or Afro-Cuban music, and are encouraged to write or arrange tunes in salsa style. Under the direction of Professor Lalo Davila, the group performs both on and off campus.
